I read this for the Summer 2011 prompt book with "Bride", "Groom," or "Wedding" in the title which is #11.

Wedding of the Season by Laura Lee Gehrke 3 Stars. It took forever. Or seemed to. The constant clashing the hero and the heroine did got on my nerves. It was a old love trying to get rekindled storyline and the hero did things to get the heroine riled up which kind of annoyed me too. He's determined to get her back but only after he realized she was going to marry someone else. I did like parts of the story though. I liked their struggle with their past. She felt he didn't love her enough to stay in England, he felt she didn't love him enough to go with him to Egypt. It ended nicely but there was just something about this book that just didn't move me. I was neither tickled nor teary-eyed enough I guess. I will give her another go but if that one is average I might just pass her over. Anyone read anything by her that was fabulous?

For my #4 Challenge (A Name in the Title), I read When Harry Met Molly by Kieran Kramer.
Lady Mary Fairbanks - Molly to her friends - is in trouble. She had planned to elope to Gretna Green with her father's archeological partner, Cedric. Cedric is somewhat unromantic, lackluster...but she digresses...anyway, Cedric is currently rocketing down the road in a coach and four with a lightskirt...not his "intended" new bride leaving her in the somewhat dubious company of her childhood foe Lord Harry Traemore.

Lord Harry Traemore is somewhat shocked to discover the delectable Fiona on her way to Gretna Green with a stranger. Not that Harry wanted to marry Fiona, of course, but he needed a mistress to enter The Most Delectable Companion Contest that he must win each year to avoid marriage by Royal Decree. Now he's stuck with Molly Fairbanks - the most annoying, stubborn...but he digresses. The point is, he needs a mistress, and he needs one now...but can a false mistress, in other words Molly, help him when he thinks no one can?

I really enjoyed this story and give it 5 stars. The characters were extremely likeable and sweet and the plot was fast

#2-Spooky read for Halloween:

This 4th installment in the Kate Daniels urban fantasy series was very good, but not her best-the biggest problem is the author dragged out the story about 40 pages after the "battle climax" of the story, when she could have wrapped up the afterward in 10. This book is still good enough for me to recommend though.

For my #2 challenge (a spooky story), I read The Woman in Crimson by Kathryn Meyer Griffith. Adrian and Caroline Stone run a bed and breakfast called Willowind. It's a very popular place until the murders of several former guests of the inn. For centuries, Lilith Roselle had lived in Willowind a recluse, creating demonic art and only emerging at night to drink the blood of terrified townspeople. During the Civil War, Lilith met and fell in love with a Confederate soldier - Jedidiah Smithy, and he with her. They lived as husband and wife for a peaceful year until Jedidiah disappeared. Centuries later, a distraught Lilith is awakened by the death of Caroline's father when at his burial one of her statues is destroyed.

Her vampiric wraith begins to haunt the inn attacking everyone except Adrian - who is the reincarnation of her lost love, Jedidiah and whom she is desperate to have return to her. The one person Lilith doesn't count on is Caroline and the fact that Caroline will fight for her husband and Willowind with everything within her.

I loved this story and thought it was appropriately eerie for the season. I give it five stars. Kathryn Meyer Griffith is perhaps one of my favorite authors and in my opinion can be counted on to serve up a good horror story.

My Review:

A great old school"bodice ripper" 80's historical romance. The hero, Falcon, is way alpha male and the heroine, Jasmine, is pretty much a stubborn twit who continually gets into scrapes that the hero must rescue her from. All that being said-the back story of King John and the machinations of his court were such that the book was still quite enjoyable.

This book would have been 5 stars if not for the stupidity, stubbornness, and just plain bit@hiness of the heroine. The book constantly goes on about her "exquisite, flaxen beauty" and the heroine uses that to manipulate most around her. The most unusual, and implausible thing, is that, even though Jasmine is supposedly a skilled white witch, she has virtually no knowledge of the marriage act and is literally terrified of bedroom relations for over two thirds of the book? She actually cringes when the hero touches her! The hero is crazy about her but at several points he wonders why he puts up with her abuse.

And yes-he does strike her a couple of times in the book-after her selfish antics put many others in jeopardy and in one instance almost get a man killed. While I don't at all support violence-this heroine was SOO selfish and mean spirited she almost makes ME want to slap her-LOL!

I give props to Virginia Henley's writing that she can make two leads who are VERY unlikable but still weave an interesting story in spite of them. This is my first Virginia Henley and I hope that most of her heroines are not dingbats like Jasmine, if so I'll skip those books as she is cringe worthy.

3.5 stars.

My Review:
Belinda Goes To Bath is another great installment in The Travelling Matchmaker series. It's fun to see Miss Hannah Pym, the 30 something former servant, who, after inheriting a modest income from her deceased employer, goes on her dream travel, via the stage coach all about England.

In this installment, Miss Pym's fellow rider that she takes under her wing is Belinda, who is forced to ride the coach, with her companion, to Bath, to cover up a "scandal". After a coach accident, the coach riders are forced to house at the hero's home, the Marquess of Frenton. A series of comedy of errors, scandals, and machinations develop-keeping the hero and heroine apart and Miss Pym on her toes.

4 stars-recommended.

Wind Warrior by Cynthia Roberts

For my #4 challenge (Reader's Choice), I read Wind Warrior by Cynthia Roberts. This is Cynthia Roberts' debut novel.

Leslie Michaels has suffered much in her young life: death, destruction and pain are all that seem to come to her through mysterious visions that have lasted all her life. Also prevalent in her dreams are visions of a handsome Native American warrior. Escaping from an insane trapper intent on having her for himself, Leslie runs into the forest and runs into the man from her dreams - Winnokin - a war chief of the Seneca tribe on a vision quest.

Winnokin is shocked to discover such a beautiful white woman who played such a large part in his vision there in the forest. Leslie is badly hurt but is convinced that her path and Winnokin's are meant to cross, she is not afraid when Winnokin takes her to his home and desires to marry her after her adoption by his people. Leslie and Winnokin endeavor to overcome many obstacles, but will the actions of a jealous woman threaten to tear them apart forever? I enjoyed this story immensely and give it five stars!

Three Irish Historical Romance stories.
Kathryn Fox's Irish Roses was the best-5 stars.
Candace McCarthy's story was not good, I quit it forty pages from the end.
Jean Wilson's story was very good at first but the heroine turned a bit "TSTL" at the end, so I give it 3 stars.
Overall, I give Irish Enchantment 3 stars.

My Review:

Of the three stories there was one good one, one OK one and one stinker. The Cindy Holbrook story, was the best-I loved the hero and heroine, and the heroines silly, scatterbrained witch Aunties. The last story, King's A Vampire Rogue, started well, but I didn't like the way the hero wanted to make the heroine his "conquest" and his mistress through most of the story. The first, Desjardien's Haunted Bride, was just not good, couldn't finish that one.

So I'd give The Haunted Bride 1 star, Love's Magic 4 stars, and The Vampire Rogue 2.5 stars. Overall, it was interesting to read a traditional Regency with supernatural storylines, but I'd only suggest Bewitched by Love if you can get it cheap or free.

My Thoughts....

I love paranormal books. I love historical romances. Having both in the same book makes Christina a happy girl. Among a sub genre that is filled with vampires and werewolves I love when I read a book that is altogether different. Somewhat similar to Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld....Lucan and his brothers all house a god inside their bodies. Grant does a great job of explaining how and why this all happened. I am not going to go into it because, well, I think you should read the book.

What I liked....
The Bothers. Knowing that danger and evil were coming, they felt that Cara should learn to protect herself. Realistically they knew she would not have a chance against others like themselves (men with gods) but there were other creatures that she could defend herself against, so they taught her how to fight. In many other historical romances you find the Alpha male simply stating "I will protect her." Lucan is an Alpha male but it was refreshing to read a book where the men were realistic enough to know that they might be able to protect the women at all times.

Also, we are introduced to additional warriors with gods that I am sure will end up with their own books. One in particular had an intense hatred for Cara based on her ancestors. I found him completely fascinating and even now am not sure if he is a good guy or a bad guy.

What I didn't like... I thought that the connection with Cara and Lucan was not there at first. Sure Grant wrote it that way but I was not a believer until after Cara's training started. That's it. I really have nothing else that struck me not quite right with the book.

Overall, a great read. 4.5 Stars! I am very much looking forward to the next book that is out soon. It is Fallon's story, Lucan's older brother. I can't wait to read it!

Review: Gracie Snow is supposed to escort ex-football star Bobby Tom Denton to the set of the movie that he is very very late to film. Bobby Tom is bound and determined to drag his feet and take his time getting there, but he didn't count on a tenacious wallflower like Gracie. She will do whatever she needs to do to get his gorgeous butt there and save her job. And she will fall in love with her charge along the way....

There are so many things about this book I loved, I just don't know where to start. It's a little odd I loved it so much. What kind of name is Bobby Tom? What is WITH his fashion sense?? Yuck! Why does Gracie need to be plain to start?? And yet, I loved Bobby Tom so much I graciously overlooked his atrocious name and flashy apparel because how could you NOT love him? He's just so outrageous in the most adorable way. And Gracie! Poor dear! You really feel for her. She feels so boring and plain, but with the help of a makeover she starts to feel pretty for the first time ever! This book just had so much heart and emotion and it was just plain old fashioned FUN!! And I just adored the secondary romance between his mom and the town "bad guy". It was almost sweeter than the romance between Bobby Tom and Gracie. But not quite. I could just go on and on, but I'll stop now. Clearly I am keeping this one

Review: I LOOOVED this book. It was not quite like anything I have read before. I thought it was wonderful and romantic and I enjoyed seeing Lara grow her backbone back and learn to love her husband. But not her husband. How confusing. hahaha! I thought Hunter (but not Hunter) was really sweet and endearing. This is one of those books where as you're reading you think 'how sweet', but in the back of your mind you know that in real life it would actually be a little creepy that this guy who is clearly NOT her dead husband comes to take his place. Still, it's not hard to love this story. I do sort of wish we got to know more about the new Hunter, but the author just decided that we should only know him by his new identity. We learn just enough about who he was, but clearly we are meant to look forward and not behind. I do so love a Kleypas novel!

Wind Rider by Connie Mason

Review: Hannah, an indentured servant from Ireland, escapes her abusive master running into the wilderness, and gets herself captured by Wind Rider, a white man raised by the Cheyenne. When she saves his life after he is injured, he decides to take her back to his camp. But this is a turbulent time for the indian nation, and the "white eyes" are looking to extinguish them all. Hannah falls in love with Wind Rider (aka Ryder, his birth name) and agrees to marry him, while also trying to convince him that he needs to return to the white world and try to help his Cheyenne people from that side.

I enjoyed this romp. It was a fun 90's style romance, which is really my favorite era for both books and music. It moved along at a good clip and kept my attention.

Review: I enjoyed this story and look forward to The Destiny. I expected a little more, but I found it pleasant, if not entirely exciting. The characters were enjoyable and endearing. I felt like the tree prophesy plot line needed to be fleshed out a bit more, but I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good Scottish romance!

Mackenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard

I tried to find a synopsis from both Shelfari.com and Amazon.com but all they said was... Wolf Mackenzie is a loner who has a way with horses and a deep distrust of outsiders - until one woman dares to venture onto Mackenzie's Mountain. Schoolteacher Mary Elizabeth Potter is determined to keep Wolf's teenage son from abandoning his dreams . . . and finds herself rescuing Wolf along the way. Now, I don't know about you but that isn't a synopsis to me. That is more of a generic sentence used probably more times then not to describe hundreds of romance novels.

So, let me tell you a little more about the book.

Mackenzie's Mountain was written in 1989 by the great Linda Howard. It has been a tried and true romance recommended by one romance lover to another for years. It is the first book in the Mackenzie saga.

Wolf Mackenzie is a quiet man who has isolated himself just on the outskirts of a small one horse town on what he considers "his" mountain. The town distrusts him and treats him like a common criminal and in return he rarely ventures to town and doesn't really care to mingle anyway. His 16 year old son Joe has learned to be indifferent towards the town just as his dad does because the town treats him the same way they treat his dad. When Joe decides that he can't even get a decent education because of the poor opinion the town has on the Mackenzies he opts for dropping out of school to help his dad train horses. The new school teacher has other plans and makes it her mission to get Joe back into school and educate him into a better life. And if she has to spend more time around Wolf Mackenzie that wouldn't be such a bad thing either.

My Thoughts.....

After having this book in my TBR pile for years and years I signed up for a reading challenge where I challenged myself to read 24 books (which I pre-selected before the start of the year) from this pile. This was one of the books I put on that list. It's about time I read it too. As I mentioned it has been almost a "staple" of romance readers top favorites for years now and it has been recommended to me time and time again.

What I liked....

I went at it was extremely high expectations and overall I was not disappointed at all. Wolf is an interesting character. Proud, strong, intelligent. It first appears that he is antisocial and is maybe not the hero that you expect from a romance novel. And to tell the truth he isn't. What he is, is a man who has isolated himself based on the reactions from other people for self preservation.

I think what complicates the story is Joe, Wolf's son. At first I had a hard time with the concept of Wolf letting his son drop out of school to help with the horses. That seemed so....wrong. A 16 year old should never drop out of school. I know it happens. My rose colored glasses broke years ago. But I am used to reading books where it is very black and white. Good parents raise their kids to go to college. They raise smart, funny and beautiful children. Bad parents run out on their kids. They let them drop out of school and do who knows what because bad parents don't care. This book does not fall into the black or white. Once I accepted that I was able to really embrace this book.

Mary is a strong female character who is intelligent yet knows her limitations. She sets her sights on getting Joe his education and like a bulldog she stubbornly refuses to give in. She also sets her sights on Wolf. She finds him attractive, intriguing and mistreated by town. She ends up being the Mackenzies' champion when it comes to staring down the town and putting the town folks in their place.

In addition to an interesting set of characters there is a little bit of a mystery and danger involved which always makes a story even better for me.

What I didn't like....

I didn't understand the big Tah-doo about Wolf being an Indian (Howard continued to refer to Wolf as either an Indian or a Breed...usually when either Wolf referred to himself or one of the town's people referred to him or Joe). Anyway, this book was written in the late 80's (on the cusp of the 90's) and was set as a contemporary romance. With this in mind, why on earth would an entire town and Wolf himself feel the need to continually point out his being Native American? And in such a negative way too (trust me on this....they do). It really confused me. In addition, Mary (although I really liked her character) was something straight out of the 1800's. She felt better in long dresses and sensible shoes. She is in her late 20's but yet still a virgin and I believe she thought herself a spinster.

Between Wolf being a "dirty Indian" and Mary being a spinster if it hadn't been for the fact that Mary drove a car up Mackenzie's Mountain in the opening I would have sworn I was reading an historical romance. Don't get me wrong, I love historicals, but this wasn't one and I think that any book should follow certain rules. This book was written about a 1990 relationship between a white woman and a Native American and I expect the attitude of the characters to reflect what is socially acceptable at that time. If a book were written about a white person dating an African American in 1950's America I would expect a small town of folks to be outraged and hateful (I am not condoning this, just acknowledging that this was the way things were at the time).

So, despite the weird little timeline issue I am overall pleased with the way the book progressed. I am glad I read it. Not sure if I would read it again. I think I might actually if she decided to release another Mackenzie book (there are 4 and I have only read 2 by the way). I think that I would read them all in anticipation (or a quick reminder of who and what each book was about) if she ever did release another one.

My rating 4.5 Stars.

The Dead Girls' Dance by Rachel Caine

This is the 2nd book in the YA Morganville Vampire series.
My thoughts.....

This book starts right up where the first book ended. It ended in such a cliff hanger I have no idea how I managed to go a full year without picking up the second.

What I didn't like....

Now normally I would start out by posting the positive but today I am going to do just the opposite and start out with what I didn't like. I thought the beginning started pretty slow. It does start off where the cliff hanger ending of book 1 ended but it almost felt as if after the big bang the story came off of an adrenaline rush and crashed a bit. It wasn't until about half way through that things picked up. They picked up in almost a breakneck speed actually which can be good but also bad. Bad is if so many things are happening so fast the reader might get lost a bit in the shuffle. This actually happened to me once or twice and I had to go back and read a page or two because I kept missing things like "Claire jumped out of the car" and wondered how she ended up in the house when she was just driving. These things are technically minor and probably my own fault. Not only was the storyline taking off at breakneck speed I found I was reading at breakneck speed to keep up with the action.

Also one of the players in the 1st book indirectly affected one of the plots in this book (I don't want to go into great detail as to not spoil this book for those who haven't read it) and for the life of me I couldn't recall this player at all from the first book. Caine actually does do a good job in reminding the reader of specifics without completely spoiling the book for people who read series books out of order but to me the dude was really minor and it was hard for me to accept that he could change the lives of Claire and her roommates so drastically.

The title is misleading. Yes there is an event called The Dead Girls' Dance. Yes it took place within the book. But it wasn't a major event. It took up all of one chapter if that. Claire and Eve head to a frat party to see if they could get some info from a vampire they knew would be there and a new plot emerges which really doesn't tie in to the main one at all. I kind of felt as if I were reading two different books about the same cast of characters.

These books are definitely written to be a series. You really can't pick a random one up and enjoy it for it's own storyline. I think reading them in order is a must too. As I mentioned Caine does a great job of filling the reader in without spoiling the complete first book but there are some things that would be spoiled anyway so you really need to read these in order.

What I liked.....

Despite that it originally felt like none of the characters grew or matured, after finishing and reflecting I decided that they really did. Claire is still young but you see that she emerges more spunky and doesn't completely feel like a little girl playing dress up. Eve has always seemed pretty deep and we get a little more background on her life before moving into Glass House with the group. She sometimes seems young and easily upset and other times she takes control of the situation to help Claire through things. Shane's character also reveals more depth and additional background that helps Claire and the reader understand him more. Michael's character perhaps makes some of the most drastic changes. I am not sure if his changes are for the best or not but that is part of any series character's charms.

The last half of the book really pushed the book up from average to good. The action (although at times I had a hard time keeping up) was seriously there to keep my on the edge of my seat. The conflict between good and evil was there and the lines were completely blurred as to who was on what team which was very intriguing. Baddies from the first book might actually prove to be not so bad in the second which is an interesting concept.

I thought the ending was OK. It certainly wasn't much of a cliff hanger (thank goodness because I totally hated that!) but we as readers were definitely wondering what Claire would do next.

So, overall 4 stars. Not as good as The Glass House but definitely a good read.

My Thoughts.....I finished Gentlemen Prefer Succubi by Jill Myles. I really really enjoyed this book. Not one usually for super steamy... I tend to cringe a little when the storyline contains an enormous amount of sex because in many cases the more sex the less actual romance the book contains. I love when a book makes me go Awwww but hate when a book makes me go Ewwwwww. With that said Gentlemen was really good. Yes there was a lot of sex but in this case the storyline supported the sex and the sex supported the storyline. Succubi are all about sex. It's how they live. It's how they survive. It worked for this book. Although there were little to no romance in this book I didn't find myself getting pissed because of the lack of it. Like I said, the book had an interesting storyline and it worked.

Jackie is a very good character who was thrown into the succubi world with no intro or anything. She struggles with who she has become and tries to fight it...she hates the thought of having to be a slut. The men in her life are ooo laaa laaa. Noah is a fallen angel. Zane is a vampire. Out of the two I have found my new obsession with Zane. A bad boy to the max. Perhaps with a heart...maybe not. His character is what I am looking forward to reading about in the next book.

Over all this might have been a 5 star read if it weren't the fact that Jackie's vampire master, when changing her left her in a dumpster in an icky alley. I don't think this was resolved well. If it were me I would definitely hold a grudge against the master. He left her in a dumpster!!! I wouldn't forgive that easily. She seemed to have forgotten in towards the end. Oh well. Still a 4.5 star read. Can't wait to get to the next one.

Story takes place right at the end of the Civil War and is brutal, and very "anti North", in my opinion, as the two leads are Southerners. Even though I'm a Southerner, I didn't like how the author portrayed Northern characters in the story. As we all know, there was faults and "bad actors" on BOTH sides.

Quit it about 60 pages in-others may like this one though.

My Review:

A Warrior's Heart is the first book in Margaret Moore's 15 book Warrior series. I liked that the hero, a former crusader who returns home badly injured and disfigured, is not a "pretty boy" but the heroine falls for him anyway. Similarly, the heroine is a "plain Jane", average-skinny and small busted, though the hero is very attracted to her. That's a nice dose of reality-we cannot all be "god or goddess gorgeous" but we all still find someone to love :)

I enjoyed the story quite a bit, until the last 50 pages, when the author has the heroine turn a bit "too stupid to live" but I can overlook that , especially since this was written in 1992, when TSTL heroines seemed to be in every romance novel-LOL.

If you like Medieval Romances with strong, dramatic and sometimes funny characters, I think you'll like this "old school" novel.

My Shelfari friend, RS, gave this book 5 stars, so I thought I'd try it too. So glad I did. Perfect story. "Tortured or Scarred hero" is one of my favorite storylines and this is one of the best examples I've read. I love that Noah is a "good man", and not a former bad one injured in a fight, but instead through a accident. Book was very down to earth and real-wonderful hero and heroine, great secondary characters too. I plan to read more of this author's books in the future. Highly recommended-5 stars.

My review:

Another great Romantic Suspense by Sharon Sala. Be forewarned-story deals with emotional and painful subject matter like child abuse, cults and HIV. The heroine of the story has been severely abused most of her life and has also had to live on the streets in hiding from a cult leader. Story, as can be expected, is very emotional and painful. Do not read this one when you are feeling down in the dumps, wait till you are in a better mind set to handle the subject matter.

I really enjoyed this short, "on the road fleeing from a villain" romance set in Georgian England. The heroine, is spoiled but grows up, and the hero is a good man, steadfast and realistic-a nice change of pace from the"reformed rakes" that is so prevalent in most newer romances. Richard Barr was a great, good leading man like Colonel Branden in Sense and Sensibility.

No love scenes but the story did not lack from it. If you like the vintage Regencies ala' Heyer and Chesney, you'll like this. 5 stars.

My Review:

All in all, a really good book. I love that this paranormal is also a historical romance set in Georgian England. The characters were appealing and the love scenes were H-O-T :)

My Review:

this Regency was very depressing, melodramatic and overdone, and the hero is a arrogant bore for most of the story-but for some strange reason I still enjoyed it-LOL. Classic "high angst" storyline-marriage of convenience. If you like "severely alpha males" you'll like this hero.

Fairly steamy love scenes for a Regency as well. 4 stars

My Review:

An interesting Urban Fantasy/Vampire Novel-about average, started out fairly slow but got better later in the book. My only pet peeve is upon getting to the end, it's one of these books that's an obvious "getting to know characters who will be in subsequent novels in a series" more than an actual story with a beginning, middle and most importantly, end. It was definately not a stand alone book, as the characters get a big upheaval in their way of life near the end of the book.

I'll try book two, Hunting Memories (after all, isn't that what I was just forced to buy to learn anything that happens to these characters?) but that does irk me. 3.5 stars.

Besides, someone had to show this straitlaced, yet gloriously compelling figure of a man that there was more to life than doing one's duty!

My Review:

Another winner by Deborah Hale. I like that the heroine was more experienced and worldly than the hero-a former soldier who is very straight laced and uptight, till he meets Jocelyn. I always like the premise of a bride ship or group of women on their own (like in the great old Western Westward The Women)

The romance between the two is not the "love at first sight variety" but more of a friendship that builds over time. The love scenes are late in the book but are fairly racy when they arrive. I applaud the author for having the heroine be in a functional relationship previously and she also has a normal sexual appetite as well. It gets tiresome in romances that every heroine who's a widow has to be from a abusive relationship to be able to find love.

All in all, a great Harlequin Historical. 4.5 stars.

My Review:

I chose this book from my mammoth TBR pile because I needed an "unread" genre and I do not normally like romances set in Civil War era. This book was so good I may change that :)

I enjoyed how the author was sympathetic to both character "sides" and chose to write the story more on the horrors of war than showing one side as "right or wrong" over the other. The story was well researched, dramatic and very stirring. Definitely more love than passion, and if you read the story you'll understand why.

I enjoyed John and Amanda's story and will be searching out other of this authors books at the used book store.

pretty good Victorian era Romance. Enjoyed the Egyptology slant and the mystery. Love scenes were a bit too "purple prose" and the relationship was a bit too "we argue then make out" for my tastes but it was still enjoyable. Wished there was more relationship evolving between the H/H. 3.75 stars

For my #15 challenge ('W' Word For Winter), I read 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover by Linda Wisdom. Jasmine Tremaine is a thoroughly modern 700-year-old witch who can't seem to shake Nick Gregory, her vampire ex-lover from 30 years ago. Nick is a darkly handsome cop who can push all Jazz's buttons.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were very funny and touching. I give this book five stars.

My Review:
Another good suspense novel by Mrs Hunter. This story is a survival story mainly, somewhat a mother/daughter story, and a small bit of romance. Good mystery though the book could have been shortened about 50 pages and still have been enjoyable.

Review: A few years ago I probably would have avoided this book based on Helen's past as a Duke's mistress, but I would have missed a treasure if I had. I do love a good fairytale retold, and this book very much fits the bill. I found Helen very genuine and real, and her 'beast' Alistair was truly wonderful. I also appreciated the 'break' from heroes in this series who are so obsessed with finding the Spinner Falls traitor. Alistair wants to know as well, but he is not consumed with the puzzle as the previous 3 heroes in this series have been, which got a bit old. I am super excited to read about the long-lost-thought-dead Reynard in the last book!!

My Review:
A cute Christmas Regency set in the "house party" storyline that involved several couples and characters stories (hence the larger than normal 350 pages for a traditional Regency).
The love story was about a C+, the mystery about a C-, and the "ghost story" a B+. All together the book rates about 3.5 stars. Recommended if you like a book that covers multiple characters. Cute read.

Review:
I was extremely intrigued by the talk this book was stirring up amongst romance readers, so despite having some-what given up on this author, I snagged a copy from the library, and am I ever so glad that I did! Hello! Ms. Ashley is back on my radar! The hero in this story is mildly autistic, though clearly high functioning. He was delightful and charming and I thought Beth was completely perfect for him. I thought the author handled his condition sensitively and created a very endearing hero. All of the characters really jumped off the page and I am SO excited to read about Ian's brothers.

My Review:

An average Mary Balogh book-which is still way better than most other writers best works. The hero was a little too "wishy-washy" for my tastes towards the end of the book but otherwise I enjoyed the storyline. As usual, Balogh's Regencies are VERY erotic for the genre-but always well done and always hot, hot, hot. Mary Balogh knows how to write sexual attraction:)

My Thoughts:
Shane has never gotten over Laura. Their six month relationship ended abruptly when Laura eloped with Huey Mays. Shane has done his best to move on, he has a great career in the FBI and is engaged to a beautiful woman. His position in the FBI has put him right in the middle of the investigation of corrupt cops and Huey Mays is at the top of the list. He hopes that his past relationship with Laura remains hidden so he can finally end the investigation and get the top man in charge. When Huey is found dead, Shane has reason to worry for Laura's safety.

He takes matters into his own hands and risks everything to try to find the truth behind Laura's involvement in this corrupt ring of cops before it is too late. He takes her to a cabin to slowly break down the barriers between them. He executes his plans with white hot passion. Apparently Laura is not so good at hiding the fact that she still burns for her former lover.
Laura has her secrets, ones she must keep hidden or risk the lives of everyone she loves. She learned years ago that she cannot go against what has bound her and determined the path that she has taken. Her husband's death has changed nothing, except maybe putting her in more danger than she has ever been before. Now she has to contend with Shane's domineering need to have her submit and trust him to carry her burdens. This is the last thing she needs, or so she thinks.

Sweet Restraint was smokin' HOT! There is just no other way of putting it. Beth Kery wowed me with Wicked Burn, gained a loyal follower with Daring Time, and Sweet Restraint has me shouting from the roof tops. This author does amazing things!!! Her stories while wickedly hot and push you to the very edge with the sexual tensions and play have a great story with well developed characters that you can fall in love with and a story that will surely pull you in making you turn those pages nonstop and having you begging for more. Not to mention that she always has amazing covers, the Cover Gods must love her! I mean look at this cover... don't you love that those ties are in reach to where she can untie herself if she wants.

My Review:

This Historical Romance set mainly in France towards the end of Bonaparte's reign, was a great "spy Romance". This is an early book of the now famous Susan Carroll, written under one of her many pseudonyms. I loved that the heroine and hero and "older and wiser"-a refreshing change from all the "19 and virginal" historicals that seem to dominate the field. Some may not like the side story aspect of Isabelle's former husband who surprisingly comes back into her life, but it is handled well, and nothing "romantic" happens between the two so adultery is not an issue.

I do wish that a-the story had been a little more on Isabelle's and Sinclair's relationship and less on their spy mission and that the story was a bit more in the love scene department as they had very good chemistry. That being said-the love scenes are such that they are tame enough to not offend readers who don't like to read that.

Overall a good Regency Historical-4 stars.

Sands of Time by Terri Valentine

This was a good story - it had a bit of everything: time travel, adventure, plotting villains, romance and maybe a teensy-weensy bit too much arguing between the hero and the heroine. However, that said, the main part of it took place in ancient Saudi Arabia where women were pretty much chattel, not worth a hoot, and men were pretty much in charge of everything. Our heroine, Chelsea Browne, was of this time and had a totally different idea and that idea clashed immediately with our hero, Kahlil. So, maybe the arguments were necessary parts of this tale.

The Prologue shows us that Sheik Kahlil ibn Mani al Muraidi has just been told by Yusaf, the old physician, that Kahlil's young son Muhammad's cannot be cured and the illness will soon take Muhammad's life. Stopped from taking the life of the old man, Kahlil listens to Umm Taif, his aunt, when she insists that there is a physician in a town not far away, that she saw it in a dream - but he must believe, sacrifice and be determined against the dangers. He knows she often has had visions of past and future, but doubts if he can do this in time to save his son. Umm Taif gives him a piece of parchment in a leather pouch, which has been beautifully scripted: the brown shell of the sea. And he rides off on his black war mare and taking a pack camel with him .......

So begins Chapter One.
Chelsea Browne left America after becoming a doctor and traveled to Saudi Arabia with the idea that she'd work toward helping the poverty-stricken people of that nation. While she was at work one day with her young Arab assistant Jamal a handsome man, who dressed richly but acted strangely, insisted she go to his village to heal his son Muhammad. Jamal could understand his language, but Chelsea couldn't. He was wielding a curved sword and demanding that the doctor show his cowardly face. It took a lot of convincing, but Jamal made sure Kahlil knew this woman was actually the doctor. Some threatening of lives was needed, Kahlil was sure; so he threatened, irritating the woman - but her bravery intrigued him. Questions about the condition of the boy convinced Chelsea she should at least see him since he could have an inflamed appendix or even typhoid fever, with its awful ramifications. So she and Jamal loaded up the Land Rover with what supplies she felt would be needed and drove off, following the Bedouin. The trip back in time was long, arduous and dangerous - but of course, Chelsea and Jamal didn't know that's where they were going. Along the way we are treated to both Kahlil's and Chelsea's thoughts and feelings about the ways of men and women - but also along the way, both of them find they are attracted to this infuriating specimen of humanity! Much to her amazement, Chelsea finds that if she touches the amulet Kahlil wears around his neck, they can each be understood when they speak!

In the village, Muhammad is nearly dying and his old physician can't understand any of the things this white woman doctor does, but the child improves after the female does many unbelievable things, like boiling their blankets and using see-through gloves. But Kahlil had his men bring Jamal and the supplies to the village, which helped. The many strange customs and beliefs among these people make Chelsea's behaviors suspect, often bringing her close to extreme punishment. But the magnetism of this woman won't leave Kahlil alone and eventually, at the urging of his aunt, Kahlil gave the leather talisman to Chelsea one night, allowing them to understand one another.

Some of the villains were introduced, as well as others who became good friends with Chelsea, all the time giving a picture of that land that not many of us know - and the ways of its people. She endured capture, as well as rapture. She was saved by both love and her own bravery, and always wanted to go back to her clinic, not realizing it was many centuries away. When she got her wish, she wasn't sure she wanted what she'd reached. And the ending twist was a really good one.

The author did a really good job of writing this story and it's evident that lots of research into the language and customs of that land was done. So many unfamiliar words are interspersed, but the meanings are right there; the strange customs are explained as well, even though they've changed (or, in some cases just aren't used in this country). Character development was excellent, and there were a few surprises here and there, but thoroughly explained. It deserves the rating, I believe.

For my #8 challenge (Author L to Z), I read After Midnight by Teresa Medeiros. When the eldest Cabot sister, Caroline, hears from her fanciful younger sister Portia that their sister Vivienne is keeping company with the infamous Adrian Kane, Viscount Trevelyan, she is naturally very concerned. After all, it is rumoured among the ton that the enigmatic nobleman is a vampire!

Of course, that is nonsense! However... Kane inhabits a dark castle, is never seen by the light of day, and embarks on nightly excursions to heaven knows where. And from the first moment Caroline meets him, she is shaken by a desire that borders on the unnatural.

Caroline must learn Adrian's secrets! But with each step, she is drawn deeper into a shadowy world of danger. Will a yearning heart lead Caroline to disaster...or an unimaginable love? I give this regency romance five stars.

For my #10 challenge (Reader's Choice), I read Witches by Kathryn Meyer Griffith. Amanda Givens is a white witch - a witch who uses her powers for good. She lives alone in a cabin in the woods of Canaan, Connecticut with her feline familiar, Amadeus. When Amanda is wrongly blamed for a rash of ritualistic murders committed by a Satanic cult, she is inevitably drawn back in time by the ghost of Rachel Coxe, a dark witch who was drowned for practicing black magic in the 17th century.

Now, as Amanda tries to rehabilitate Rachel's reputation in an effort to save her own life, she has to rely on a sister's love and magical knowledge, and a powerful sect of witches named the Guardians to help Amanda get home safely. I give this romantic horror story five stars. I thought it was great.

Review: Wow!!!!! I simply adored this book!!! I enjoyed how it started out with the Cinderella-like story line, but then about a hundred pages in it veered off in a new direction. I found the whole book honestly delightful. I was either giggling or getting teary through most of the book. It seems like with each Bridgerton book I become more and more enamored with this family. I confess I am a sucker for anything with a fairy tale twist, but not all authors pull it off -- this was just utter perfection.

Review: I do love a bad boy.... in my books that is. And I love finding new-to-me authors!! This book was just great. Easy to sit and read for hours on end, humorous, emotional, and very sexy!!! Loved it. Can't wait to read more from this author!

Review: How fascinating!! Buffy the Vampire slayer meets Regency England. In a way it also reminded me of KMM's Fever series, the way it leaves you wondering who the hero will wind up being when the series concludes. This book was refreshingly original -- at least it's not quite like anything I have read to date. I liked Victoria -- I felt for her and the choices she had to make, and the consequences for some of her choices were harsh in this book. I liked how it wasn't terribly heavy, but nor was it too light and silly like some paranormal authors tend toward. I will definitely be reading more of this series....

Review: I really had to push through this one -- not very interesting at all. How disappointing! This author is otherwise known as J.R. Ward, and I love the books she publishes under that name, but it was almost like a whole different author with this one! I have seen rave reviews for this book, which perplexes me... I guess I will stick with her paranormals.

Review: What a wonderful book!! This took me by surprise -- I didn't know how I would like a beta hero, but frankly, I adored him. It was a refreshing change from conniving, harsh, rake types I normally read about. Surprisingly, despite the fact that there are NO villains or bad people in the entire book, it still managed to stay interesting and fresh. I thought every interaction between Avery and Lily was sweet and endearing and very romantic. This is very much a romantics book. I would have liked more letter interaction I think -- that is my only complaint. Or rather, I would have liked to have seen more of the letters. This is one of those books that made me feel a broad range of emotion. I was laughing, I was crying.... I totally cried when I read the letter Avery wrote after his friend died. I just cannot say enough good stuff about this book, I highly recommend it.

My Review:

Kiss of Darkness was fairly good if a bit overly dramatic Vampire Romance. The author did have an unusual approach to your typical Vampire story but there was a bit too much weakness in the heroine, and machismo in the hero to rate it at 3 stars or more. It was too high strung and "Gothic" to take at all seriously. The love scenes were bland and "purple prose"-which those who dislike any discription in love scenes might like,though I did not. The scenes kind of reminded me of an old 50's love story where the love scene shows some silly, flowery symbolic stuff during the "act" then returns to the couple in bed smoking-LOL.

Enjoyable but forgettable.

My Review:

The story begins when the heroine, Amanda, receives a letter that was supposed to have been given to her six months before at her parents death. In the letter she learns that her uptight and morally stuck up parents hid another child, born from her father's extramarital affair. The letter tells how the child was kept in a faraway town by a hired housekeeper on a small stipend. When Amanda learns of this she races off to find the child, without any abigail or relation, to try to discreetly bring the child back without a scandal. On the road her carriage almost runs over a man unconscious in the road, whom from his clothing is obviously a gentleman. Amanda brings him back to a inn, nurses him back to consciousness, but has a bigger dilemma when he wakes with no memory of who he is.

That begins a fast paced, Romantic and passionate story. The hero is a likable though flawed lead, a playboy and heavy partier (kinda reminded me of Jack Sparrow). The heroine is a sweet, self sufficient woman of 25, considered "on the shelf" after one failed season and her parents rigid upbringing. The secondary characters in the book are as enjoyable as the leads-especially Amanda two spinster Aunts and Jack's brother Julian, who has his own story in the second book, The Perfect Gentleman.

4 stars.

My Review:

A pretty good Urban Fantasy/Horror Light/Paranormal Romance. In this book Vampires are not your typical "sexy, misunderstood" characters but are vile and evil creatures who love to kill. The heroine, Leah, is a sort of "anthopoligist/good witch" who is kinda a female Van Helsing. She's devoted her life's work to fighting against Vampires after a creature she believes to be a Vampire kills several of her family members as a child. The hero, Scott, is part of a Government military "Special Ops" type unit that is experimenting with creating a group of "supermen" from the DNA of a mummy the Government found in a Texas cave. Really bad idea as the mummy is actually a unawakened super powerful Vampire that by taking him from the cave, they now awaken him.

The action was a B+, the characters about a C+ (Leah was a little weak but she will hopefully improve in book 2) and the Romance was a C-. Don't read The Last Vampire if your looking for typical Paranormal Romance, as the romance is only a secondary issue. Do read this book is you like action and horror with a little romance thrown in.

Note: While the love scenes between the hero and heroine are pretty tame=PG, there are sex scenes with a secondary female character that are pretty raunchy and graphic, like NC 17. So a heads up if you don't like graphic books.

3.5 stars.

My Review:

A wonderful fast, Regency Romance. In this semi sequal to the author's The Wicked Earl, in Untouched Mistress, we have Lucien's brother Guy's story. The story begins when Guy finds a unconscious woman washed up on the beach. The woman, Helena, is terrified of something and is adament about running away and hiding in London. Guy offers to bring her and there the adventure begins.

Guy and Helena are both "tortured heros" in their own way, but refreshingly, in this case, it's Helena who has truly faced some unspeakable cruelty in her life. She fears and distrusts men, and Guy find's that even though he desires Helena, he must move slowly and in doing so, falls in love with her.

The villain in this book is really a baddie.His evilness makes for a thrilling,drama filled book. The story is more about love than passion, though there are a few love scenes. A great story about overcoming abuse too.

4 stars.

Medieval Romance: Pretty good Historical Romance with paranormal elements to it. Not outstanding but good enough that I'll try another of the author's books. This author is a Veterinarian and so far her two books are heavily involved with horses, the heroine's are "horsewitches". So someone who is a horse fan may enjoy these more than I did. It was still very interesting though. 3 stars

My Review:

a bit slow going but still entertaining. Much more of a novel about the hero, Valentine, than a Romance. Regency, but the characters are involved in the war and most of the story is set on the frontlines. The heroine is the daughter of a Major who "follows the drum" along with her mother. Medium romance and love scenes pretty tame. 3 stars.

I feel the need to add this: I was reading this book when we had to put my father in Hospice so the book may be honestly BETTER than I thought, but I was so preoccupied with the situation with my dad that I didn't enjoy the book as much as I could have.

My Thoughts:
Ian MacKenzie has what would today be known as Asperger's Syndrome. Beth Ackerley is engaged to a real doo-doo head. (And I'm sure that's a real literary term!) Upon meeting Lord Ian, she is entranced and intrigued. They start a whirlwind romance that takes them to the decadent streets of Paris and the Misty moors of Scotland. There is a murder to solve and most people think Ian is to blame, but....as with all the MacKenzies things are not always as they appear.

Dark Gold by Christine Feehan

For my #15 challenge (backlist from a favorite author), I read Dark Gold by Christine Feehan. Alexandria Huton is near death when she, and her little brother, Joshua, are found by vampire hunter Aidan Savage. He saves them from a terrible fate, but in the process Alex is changed forever.

Now, she is swept into the dark world of the Carpathians - struggling with near vampiric urges and a lethargy that strikes during the day. Only Aidan, as her lifemate, can help. But can she trust him when her brother is kidnapped by a vampire bent on Aidan's destruction.

I really liked this story. Alexandria was a strong, capable woman and Aidan was extremely likable (in a 'medieval' way :)). I give this story four stars. I would definitely recommend it to others.

My Thoughts:
As I write this review, I find that I'm nervous that I will not do justice to this book. Ok, my only criticism. I'll get that out of the way. Ms. Lowell describes in absolute detail the geography. Every butte/ravine/creek/canyon etc. I'm not that familiar with the desert so it meant very little to me, BUT if I were familiar with that landscape and loved it like she obviously does, it probably would have enhanced the story for me. Ok, #2. Everyone knows that I don't need or particularly want graphic descriptions regarding the steamier more personal aspects of the romance story. There were times (not every/all times)when I felt the language was a little more than necessary. I also know that that is a matter of opinion for me, and therefore does not disqualify this book as a 5 star for me. The raw emotion and the story were so compelling for me that it overshadowed any criticism I may have.

Janna Wayland is an orphaned woman alone in a hazardous land filled with renegades and Mustangers who are intent to capture a wild mustang that she has vowed to protect. So not only is the lanscape harsh and difficult but the inhabitants of that landscape are dangerous as well. When Janna first sees Ty he is being beaten by a group of renegade indians and will more than likely be let to run so that he can be hunted, tortured and killed. He shows true grit in the chase and true courage. Janna finds him and rescues him before the indians can finish their dastardly plan. She nursed him back to health while hiding the fact that she is a woman by dressing like a man and hiding her hair.
Ty has plans and dreams. He wants Lucifer the mustang Janna has vowed to protect so that he can start a herd of horses on his Montana ranch and he wants to make his fortune so that he can find and court a "Silken Lady". A woman who is pure femininity and absolute beauty, and perfect creamy grace. As he is sharing his dream with the "boy" who rescued him, little does he know that he is breaking her heart with every word.
So you see the romantic drama. Eventually Ty finds out that the "boy" is indeed a woman and a passionate, loving, brave, capable women. Due to some rather amazing circumstances Janna and Ty catch Lucifer and as Ty begins to win his trust and loyalty, he doesn't realize that Janna is taming Ty as well. Each little step of the way, he fights and it hurts her desperately to be reminded that she's no "Silken Lady" but slowly and methodically she earns his love, and loyalty.
I was drawn in almost immediately and every time I had to put the book down, (I mean who needs to eat or sleep or take kids to school or work?) I couldn't wait until I could pick it back up again. I wanted to know, how/when they were going to come together. I wanted to know when Ty was going to truly see Janna for the perfect fit for him that she was. I needed to know what was going to happen next.
If you like westerns at all, you should read this book. If you don't like westerns typically, you should try this book.

My Thoughts:
So, certain truths are universally accepted. Diana Palmer is going to write her Heroes as Older/wealthy/alpha-to the point of absolute jerk/women haters. She is also going to write her heroines as young/poor/virginal-to the point of creepy/traumatized. The typical story will have he hero wanting the much younger etc heroine but refusing to act on it. In his refusal he will be mean and hateful to heroine. She will love him anyway and want only to wed him and raise his children. He will be her first, unless she's been molested by someone before. He will work hard to make her feel young and inadequate.
However, this time she varied her plot device sort of. He wants her, but doesn't abuse her in order to try to deny himself. She is young and poor but working and hasn't loved him from afar for years. Yes, he rescues her, and yes she is the young virginal heroine. But it wasn't that bad. I mean, we all love a story like that every once in a while but not e-v-e-r-y book. It's like she got in a rut.
So I was pleasantly surprised that the hero here isn't a total jerk!! Not exactly a glowing review, but hey!

For my #8 Challenge (author with a pseudonym), I read Desire by Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Ann Krentz). Upon her father's death while he was traveling in Spain, Lady Clare of Desire reluctantly writes to her guardian, Lord Thurston of Landry, to find her a husband. Enclosed in her missive is a "husband recipe" with four qualities which she requires her future husband to have.

Thurston sends only two candidates for Lady Clare's hand, one man who kidnapped her for four days and the other - Sir Gareth of Wyckmere - who is his 'natural son' and known as the Hellhound. Clare is astounded to learn that her wish has been granted in such a way but is determined that if she is to marry, it will be on her own terms.

I loved this story and its honest treatment of the issue of virginity and people's reaction to it. Lady Clare manages her isle and her perfume business with great skill and has earned people's respect because of it, but she has yet to give respect to her husband until she receives it herself. I give this story four stars

Grace Alexander is a sex therapist whose friend believes needs a seriously sexy birthday present - a Greek love-slave to fulfill her every need for a month. On Grace's birthday, Selena conjures up Julian and blissfully gives Grace her "present". Grace is shocked when the naked Julian appears in her living room and begins to tend to her. She does the one thing Julian never expects any woman to do, she refuses to have sex with him.

As the month goes by, Grace and Julian grow closer and Julian begins to hope that he can break the curse and go home. However, the more he gets to know Grace, the more he begins to believe home is where his heart lies - with Grace. I loved this story and give it five stars.

A dark-haired beauty washes up on Andrew Paxton's beach in the Caribbean, to be found by Andrew's three-year-old son, Billy. While recovering at Andrew's house, the young lady, who says her name is Marina, is very reticent to talk about where she comes from.

Assuring Andrew - a scientist who works with classified material - that she means him and Billy no harm, doesn't come easy for Marina as she harbors a secret which could cause them serious harm. She has escaped from her people and come to Andrew's world in order to gather evidence to prove to them that they can live with 'Outworlders' safely. Marina's secret mission is jeopardized when a strange sea craft is spotted along the beach and an expedition to find the lost continent of Atlantis finds more than is expected. I give this story five stars.

My Thoughts:
I remember Ty McCordle and Imogen Wilson slightly from Flat Out Sexy. I really liked them both and was really looking forward to reading their story. I LOVE a good mismatched couple story. It's actually one of my favorite plot devices.
For some reason, I just didn't connect with this story, or these characters. We barely get reacquanted with them and by around pg 20 they are aleady fully aroused and speaking in sexual innuendo that is heavy on the sex and light on the innuendo. Then the next day, they are having crazy hot monkey sex (CHMS). Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it felt so quick and so unrealistic. To top it off, the language during CHMS was so graphic to me. I know what oral sex is, and don't want to know every slurp and grunt and how wet/salty/earthy.......everyone is. ya know?! I know that others really dig that, and that's all fine and good, but I found the descriptions of all the CHMS to be too much.
As the plot continues, I found it all to be too fast and too.....I don't know. I just couldn't get invested. Even with the secret Ty was keeping and stuff like that usually endears me to a character. I just couldn't feel invested. None of it felt even remotely realistic to me. Unfortunately for me, as much as I wanted to Love Ty and Imogen, I just didn't.
It was ok for me, but not a keeper. Luckily it was a very quick read. And Thank you Randi, for loaning it to me. That was awfully sweet.

My Thoughts:
This is a fresh modern version of the traditional Cinderella fairy tale. Complete with wicked stepmother and stepsisters, a Ball, secret identity, and the stroke of midnight. It definitely gives Cinderella a run for her money. Instead of mice and household animals as companions, Sophie Becket is loved and nurtured by the household staff. It is this loving, albeit limited family who come up with the idea for Sophie to "crash" the masquerade ball given by The Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton. There our Sophie meets her Prince Charming, in the very debonair Benedict Bridgerton. Benedict is immediately drawn to his mystery muse.

After the ball, Sophie returns to her life in servitude to her Step-monster-ish, and her two daughters. After a turn of events, Sophie find herself on her own and finds work with a family elsewhere, and the son of that family attempts to mistreats her in a most personal way. Enter Prince Charming again, who happens to be a guest at a party given by same Son, Son of a B#%&H more like. He rescues our Sophie and their unlikely relationship begins.

She from the working class and he from the ton. It could never work in the traditional marriage sense so......Benedict makes her an offer. Be his mistress. Now, This Reader doesn't usually like it when Heroes make such an offer. This Reader tends to begin to really dislike said, Hero. But this time, and in this situation it was done with such warmth, that This Reader loved the Hero in spite. It really was a "No Win" for this unlikely couple and he knew he couldn't live without her so........
She categorically refuses his offer. Twists and turns later, I was pleasantly surprised at how Ms. Quinn worked the situation out for Our Sophie and Benedict "Charming". I knew she would. :::nods head for effect:::

I will not go into more details, so as not to spoil it for you, but This Reader loved this Cinderella story very much. I'm now referring to the entire Bridgerton series as my Vitamin B-ridgerton, cuz it's soooooo good. (and good for you!!!)

My Thoughts:

I have heard many great things about this author and her books, but having not read anything by her I jumped at the chance to borrow Deeper from an online friend. I will definitely be purchasing books in the future by Megan Hart.

The first chapter moved a little slow, maybe I wasn't in the mood for this particular book, but I was sorely tempted to set it aside and try it later. However, it being a borrowed book I wanted to get it read quickly so I could send it back, so I pushed through. Once the story got really going I could not put the book down. The unrecognized love that Bess and Nick shared was heart-breakingly sweet and only such a love could hold the spirit to this world and allow it to come back to right the mistakes from the past.

Deeper moves between now and twenty years past. Bess has moved back to her grandparents beach house in Bethany while dealing with a marriage on the rocks with a divorce coming soon. Coming to the beach and this house stirs her memories of a summer love, memories that were never forgotten and never far from the surface. Young Bess and older Bess are dealing with the same relationship issues with Andy.

Twenty years ago: Bess is living in the beach house while working at Sugarland to pay for college. She has been in a relationship with Andy for three years and suspects him of cheating on her. He has become distant and is not answering her calls or calling when he is suppose to. She meets Nick at a party when she says she "sort of" has a boyfriend.

Nick has a bad rep and Bess has been warned away from him on several occasions by several of her friends. This does not stop Bess's desires. She keeps it on a friendly level until she decides that she has had enough of Andy's antics. Bess and Nick's relationship progresses pretty quickly, moving from a roll in the sack to being unseperable over night. Neither one of them are willing to put a name to what is going on between the two of them. They won't admit their feelings for one another.

Present: It has been twenty years since Bess has been back in Bethany. She has not seen or heard from Nick in as long. With her marriage falling apart she takes herself to the beach and is comtemplating her life and the summer love that she shared with Nick, when out of the blue he is there. She thinks it must all be a dream until he shows up at her door the next morning soaking wet and smelling of the beach and summer. Thing progress very quickly again. This time everything is different. Bess wants to know why Nick never came for her but is afraid the answers will send him away again.

The time that they share in the present shows a different side of Nick. He can't answer where he has been only that he wanted to come back to Bess. And until Bess said his name that fateful night on the beach he couldn't reach her. With the time that they have together, Bess and Nick are more honest with each other about their feelings and what happened in the past.

Deeper had tears stinging the backs of my eyes and my heart melting over and over again. The love shared between Bess and Nick was a love that would stand the test of time and bring them together again. I truly loved this story.

My thoughts:
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was the perfect mix of fun, witty banter, and poignant moments. Each lead character (Anthony and Kate) had their own fears and obstacles to overcome. I really love Lady Whistledown too. I know this review is short and probably not very impressive and also not very inspiring, but Hey, it's one of those days.

If you haven't read the Bridgerton's, you simply must try them. This author highly recommends them......:)

My Thoughts:

Always feeling like she was different she hid her gift to the point that she completely blocked her past, remembering nothing more than an image of her mother dropping her off at preschool, never to return again. She grew up being shuffled from foster home to the next. She can no longer block out her gift and is faced with the haunting images of a family torn, a gorgeous man that she senses wants her for some purpose.

Sean walks into her life with stories of her disappearance and the knowledge that her family has been searching for her. They are swept into another time and place where they must put the clues together before the sands of the clock run out. Danni must right the wrongs done to her family in order to find a happiness to last her for a lifetime.

Haunting Beauty is a spellbinding mystical story of love lost and paths crossed. It is not an epic romance by no means, but it surely will drag you into the lives of this family and have you sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to find out if the pull that Danni and Sean feel toward each other will finally bind them. My only problem with the book is that I thought it lacked in the romance department, great paranormal though.

My Thoughts:

We meet Ms. Fielding in the beginning of this story, as she rescues our Derek from a couple of thugs intent on scarring him and beating him to a pulp. So, our spinster, country mouse has a little spunk. She is then allowed entrance into Craven's to do "Research" for her newest novel. Many things are done in the name of research but we begin to see that although Sara is innocent she has a courage and sense of adventure. She is the person who doesn't want life to be lived around her but wants to embrace life. She is drawn to our Derek, can you tell I love him? Our Derek is drawn to her even though he tries valiantly not to be. He knows he can never be good enough for her. Oh, Pish! Our Derek is Wooooonderful. He is a supreme tortured hero, and we Love him. He tries again and again to push her away, and somehow keeps coming back. Luckily for us he does. Sara and he finally come together, and even though Our Derek has never known happiness or contentment of even complete Love, he Loves her. He is unable to say, it until circumstances put him face to face with seeing that Love disappear.

I like Sara's sense of adventure and her soft heart. I love the Mathilda storyline too. We meet up again with Alex and Lily Raiford from Then Came You. And Stalwart Mr. Worthy. And of course, Our Derek. (did I mention that I love him?)

This book is a keeper for sure!!!

Review: This was a fabulously sexy medieval read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and savored it. My only complaint was that the hero wasn't made to suffer much at all for his deplorable treatment of the heroine. Over all I found this a great book and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author! My cover is far better than this one, but I couldn't find a copy for this review....

Synopsis:

My Review:

A very good Regency Romance. The heroine, Madeline, is an average "on the shelf" older daughter of an genteel but impovrished family. So she is surprised when a Baron seeks out her attentions. The reader learns though that the Barons intentions are not honorable and are in fact perverse. When the Baron corners Madeline, a stranger appears and rescues Madeline. She learns that he is the Earl Tregalles, dubbed "The Wicked Earl" because he was accused of evil himself. So who does Madeline trust when she's is about to be forced into an unwanted marriage with the Baron?

This Regency read very much like a Johanna Lindsey or Catherine Coulter. Interesting characters, "misunderstandings" and loads of sexual tension throughout. The love scenes are passionate though more were needed to please me. The hero, is dark, brooding and misunderstood, the heroine very insecure though she gains courage throughout the storyline. All in all, a quick, enjoyable "high drama" romance.

In London, a match between a lady and a man who works for his living would be unthinkable. But in this verdant paradise, they are equals in every way...

My Review:

Another solid story from Regency Author Donna Simpson. Unlike most Regencies set in the opulence and glittering ballrooms of Regency England, in Lady Savage the story is set in Jamica but mostly on a primitive Island that a dozen genteel English find themselves on after their ship is commandered by the Americans. The heroine, Savina, is a forward thinking woman who unfortunately finds herself pressured into a betrothal with a very old fashioned, arrogant Earl. While on their deserted Island, Savina realizes the error in choosing the Earl as well as her newfound feelings of affection and respect for the Earl's secretary, Anthony.

The story is fast paced and the groups trials to survive on the island are very much "Survivor-Regency era". Lady Savage is a good choice for those who are sick of Alpha males as Anthony is very much a calm, reasonable and clever "beta male".

The love scenes are there, but tame.

All in all, a quick, good book. 4 stars.

A beautiful Regency Romance. I really enjoyed this romance. The storyline was unusual as the heroine was disabled. She is partially deaf and has a large speech impediment caused by a horrendous incident as a child. The hero is an all around good guy. Wonderful secondary characters too. Beautiful cover as well.Recommended-4 stars.

Review: I enjoyed this quite a lot. A little different from the norm, sexy, funny, basically classic Kleypas. The sex scenes were a little hotter than she normally does, and just a teeny tiny bit kinky. Nothing to faint over, but surprising for her nonetheless. I found it quite engrossing and a lovely cabin vacation read.

I read this one for author with the same last initial as mine. It was an unfortunate descision and one that I am hoping not to have to live with. I hope to have enough time this month to read another book by this author to at least redeem herself in my eyes.

My thoughts...

I wrote a longer review on my blog which is linked to the title above but I wanted to share a little bit here too. Some times I read a book that I love and cannot express my feelings for it. I read some of the other reviews of this book and for some it was great others horrible. I didn't read this book to pick it apart because of poor grammar or mistakes that editing should have fixed. I read this book for the simple pleasure of finding myself deeply involved in the storyline and characters. What this book has to offer is a beautiful romance with an extreme alpha male.

Court is not one to lay on the passionate prose and flowery words but at one point he made my romantic heart flutter. I don't have the book with me at this moment so I will paraphrase....

Upon finding themselves being attacked by some extremely dangerous men, Courtland and Annalia fight for their lives. Court takes out several men only to find his dainty Anna standing over a fallen enemy. As she reaches down to pick up the rock she used to hit the man over his head Court says "You don't want to kill him."

Anna says "Yes I do."

Court looks at her and quietly says "People like me are put on this world so that people like you don't have to live with those kind of regrets."

Now know that I am totally paraphrasing but that passage completely melted me.

So my rating for this book is 5 stars it is completely a keeper and I can't wait to read the other 2 books in the trilogy.

Everything and the Moon by Julia Quinn

So I posted my complete long winded review on my blog which you can read by clicking the link but I will summarize briefly for you here.

Victoria and Robert were young and in love. On the night they were to run away and elope their fathers interfered and b0th ended up broken hearted and thinking the worst of the other. 7 years later Victoria is a governess to a brat of a boy and a witch of a mother. Victoria's and Robert's paths once again cross. Once the misunderstanding is settled Roberts sets out to convince Victoria that they were meant to be together.

Over all I thought the book was good. For me, however, the middle was just long, drawn out and annoying. I got very frustrated with Victoria's inability to let the past go. She wasn't the only victim but not only was she unwilling to take the chance she then decided that she was enjoying her independence so much that she felt that Robert would stiffle that too much.

The last third of the book was wonderful. The humorous conversations between the two was exactly what I like from a Julia Quinn book. Although it wasn't up to par with her beloved Bridgerton books, this one should be read.

I give this book 4 Stars.

After an unexpectedly sexy encounter, Carlie sneaks out on Tyler.... but Tyler won't give up on finding his mysterious harem girl. Now he has suddenly noticed Carlie as a woman (who is not a frump at all) though, and he is getting to know the caring wonderful woman that she is inside and he finds himself torn between the two, never guessing that they are one and the same.....

This is a reissue of Lori Foster's very first published book, so I went into this one without high expectations.... while there was a detail or two that didn't really make sense, over all I was extremely impressed with this book. The banter between Tyler and Carlie is fun, funny, and endearing. And of course it was sexy. I LOVED it. And, um, wow on the cover!! Kept this one covered when the kids were around..... ;)

This is not your teenage daughter's vampire story. The Bella in this story is not a child. In the previous book (Lover Eternal, book 2) Bella was kidnapped by the Lessening society and held captive by a deranged Lesser with serious head issues. Zsadist has made it his personal mission to find her and bring her back, haunted by the connection they had before her abduction. In a stroke of luck, he and the rest of the Brotherhood find out where she is and rescue her, en mass. I have to say that part made me a little teary, that they would all care that much. Now Bella must heal inside and out after her weeks at the hands of the Lesser named Mr. O. Not the only one with some healing to do, Zsadist is seriously mentally and physically scarred from his own past as a blood slave to a female vampire, who used him for more than just his blood, and warped his ideas of sex. The way Bella and Zsadist are able to come together, heal together, and be together was touching and wonderful. I was thoroughly enamoured with this book and it's complexity. A few things happen to other characters in this book that didn't exactly thrill me however. I can't wait to find out how this story continues.....

Suddenly, the idea of wedding the sinfully sexy nobleman becomes much more appealing, but Brand, who caught his former betrothed in the throes of passion with another man, has no interest in marriage. Brynna knows that earning Brand's trust and love will not be easy, but she is determined that this is one battle she will definitely win.

Review: I enjoyed this book quite a bit. This is Paula Quinn's debut novel, and I do think she has gotten better since then. I found this easy to read. The writing had an enjoyable feel, it moved along quickly, and the characters were engaging and fun. It didn't quite reach keeper status for me, but definitely well worth the read if you like a light medieval romp.
